- Play only when told and stop playing immediately after the director stops conducting.
- Cooperate, practice and strive to become the best player you can be.
Seating
There will be a playing test at the start of the year (September) that will determine seating positions. Since section balance is critical, strong players will be playing all parts within the section. Further seating changes during the year will be announced if needed.
Supplies
Where applicable, make sure you have several reeds in good condition. Do not store your reeds on the mouthpiece. We suggest you purchase your reeds by the box from a music dealer. If you wish to order them, please fill out an accessory form located in the band room and give it to one of the directors. Saxophone players will need neck-straps and trumpet players will need to purchase straight mutes. Percussionists will need to have their own mallets and sticks. Please see Mr. Sundell or Mr. Tribley for assistance.
Percussion
Beginning of the rehearsal – organize all gear needed for class. Extra practices will be scheduled on marching cadences if needed for those students on the drum line. Cover and return all equipment after rehearsals.
Cell Phones
Per the student handbook policy:
“Students will be allowed to use the cell phones during the school day in the cafeteria and hallways. Cell phones and portable electronic devices must be placed in silent mode and can’t be used in academic areas except by the teacher’s direction”
During class, if a cell phone is not used for educational purposes as approved by a director, we will confiscate them for our class period and issue a detention.
Music Department Use
Students may use the music department for practicing during their study hall periods. They must check in with Mr. Sundell or Mr. Tribley at the beginning of the period (or half period). If you do not verbally ask one of us, you will be marked truant for that period and will have to take it up with the Dean.
- Music Department Sign-In: Students will sign in at the beginning of the period (or half period). You may only check in if you intend to practice your band instrument. No homework, eating, or socializing will be permitted. Violations of the ‘practice only’ rule will result in the privilege being revoked. Only music department students are allowed to check in. The directors will only sign students in that meet these criteria.
- Eating: The cafeteria is the designated place for eating. In order to keep our facilities in good condition, the music department will have a no food and drink policy (except water). Food and drink (except water) will not be allowed in practice rooms, hallways, or teacher offices. A warning in class will be given at the beginning of the school year.
- 1st Offense – you will be given the opportunity to eat lunch in the In-School Room
- 2nd Offense – you will serve the 1st offense punishment and a detention.
- Following Offenses: You will be referred to your Dean.
