Students taking AP Biology next year should see Mr. Bomgaars in Room 2230 to pick up the summer reading materials.  This must be done by the end of the day on Thursday, May 30th.  (Bomgaars 5/23)

It’s time to pick up your 2012-2013 yearbook!  Distribution will take place during lunch periods on Thursday, May 23rd in the foyer.  You must have your ID to pick up your book.  For distribution, we will scan IDs to check your name against the master list.  If your name is on the waiting list, please see Ms. Wenzel in the LST on Friday.  If you did not pre-order a yearbook, we should have a few extra books for sale; the price of the book is $55.  (Richards 5/23)

Are you registered for the D128 Foundation for Learning’s 3rd Annual Lace Up 4 Learning 5k run/walk? The event is next Monday, May 27th, starting at 8:00 a.m. at Westfield Hawthorn Mall near the entrance to Macy’s on Route 60.  Fun, food, t-shirts, AND all current VHHS students run/walk for FREE!!  Register today at www.signmeup.com/D128laceupforlearningVHHS and LHS compete for the travelling participation trophy.  Join the fun, and help bring the participation trophy back to VHHS!  (Todoric 5/24)

SUMMER BASEBALL:  Any Freshman, Sophomore or Junior student that is interested in playing summer Baseball should attend an informational meeting this Friday, May 24th.   We will meet in Room 0201 at 7:20 a.m.  Any student that wishes to play but cannot attend the meeting should see Coach Czarnecki prior to Friday.  (Czarnecki 5/23)

Any and all girls interested in and planning on playing Golf on the VHHS Girls Golf Team next Fall must attend a brief meeting after school on Thursday, May 23rd in Room 2307.  If you have a conflict, you must see Coach Seward or Coach Moran for information that will be distributed at this meeting.  (Seward 5/23)

The AP Econ students will be collecting used school supplies during locker clean out day.  Drop boxes for your gently used (or new) school supplies are in the Library, Room 2201, as well as the West Foyer if you have any extra items from home.  The Vernon Area Pantry needs your calculators, pencils, folders, paper and more!!  (Dircks 5/21)

The time has come to begin the search for the next “Senior Speech” speaker.  Do you have some wisdom to impart?  Do you have some memories to share?  Why not speak your mind and leave your fellow peers with a lasting impression on Graduation day?  Swing by Room 2211 to grab a handout to find out more about this long standing VHHS tradition.  Yours may be the next Senior Speech!!  (Conroy 5/20)

CLUBS AND SPORTS

The Vernon Hills High School Athletic Department is seeking input from Boys Water Polo players, parents and community members on the qualities and characteristics we should be looking for in our search for our next Head  Boys’ Water Polo coach.  We’ll be hosting an open forum on Tuesday, May 21st  from  7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Vernon Hills High School Library.  Please understand that we are looking for people to communicate the qualities and characteristics we should be looking for.  We are not looking for anyone to recommend specific individuals for the position.  If you are unable to attend the meeting, but would like to share your thoughts, I can be reached at (847) 932-2022, you could stop by my office or you can send me an email at brian.mcdonald@d128.org.  (McDonald 5/20)

SOCCER:  Any player interested in playing Soccer this Fall, there will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, May 28th right after school in Room 1201.  At this meeting, you will meet our new Head Coach Mike McCaulou.  Also, at the meeting you will get all the information you need for the summer league team and summer camp.  This meeting is very important to attend, so we hope to see all boys’ soccer players there!!  (McDonald 5/21)
