Auditions for the winter play The Bomb-itty of Errors are this week Wednesday, November 19th and Thursday, November 20th after school in the Studio Theatre. Callbacks are on Friday, November 21st. The play is a rap version of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, and auditionees should prepare one of the rap monologues included in the audition packets. We are also looking for students with DJ experience, and others with hip-hop dance and/or choreography experience. Please pick up an audition packet outside the Fine Arts Office or from Ms. Freichels in Room 2217. Word. (Freichels 11/18)

GEOGRAPHY AWARENESS WEEK: November 16 – 22: Created by National Geographic in 1987, this program is designed to celebrate and expand geographic learning in school, at home, and in communities. This year’s theme is the Future of Food, regarding the impact of climate change, population growth, the use of food crops, and genetically modified foods. To participate in Geography Awareness Week, look for the display case outside Room 2210, and outside any Social Studies classroom for the daily question and a chance to win a prize. If you think you know the answer, write it down on a sheet of paper with your name and drop it in any of the envelopes outside any Social Studies classroom. (Caton 11/17)
GIRLS’ OPEN LACROSSE: The first session of Girls’ Open Lacrosse is tomorrow, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Stadium. DRESS WARM!! It is open to all girls attending VHHS, regardless of their intent to play during the season. We have sticks and goggles that may be borrowed; please bring your own formed mouthguard. Congratulations to the Girls’ Swimming and Diving team on their 5th place finish at last Saturday’s Sectional Championships in Lake Forest. Among the many highlights were the following State qualifiers: Lisa Cheng (50 & 100 Freestyle, and 200 & 400 Free Relays); Summer Hemesath (200 & 400 Free Relay); Lilly Hemesath (200 & 400 Free Relay), and Nicole Pinter (200 & 400 Free Relay) each of which earned All Sectional Honors for their Relay performances, as well as their individual performances. Additional swimmers earning All Sectional awards are the members of the 200 Medley Relay (Susana Peszek, Lilly Hemesath, Alina Goodman & Grace Han). The girls will be competing at the IHSA State meet this weekend at Evanston High School. (Greenawalt 11/18)

GEOGRAPHY AWARENESS WEEK: If global temperatures increase 3°C, U.S. corn production is expected to decline 45%, a 4°C increase would result in 60% drop in production. Scientists believe climate change will impact food production throughout the world as higher temperatures will change precipitation patterns.
